Why I Love the Simple Internet
As everything online gets louder, more crowded, and more overwhelming, I keep coming back to one thing:
The best sites and apps are the ones that do one thing exceptionally well.
They don’t try to be everything for everyone.
They don’t clutter your brain with noise.
They’re often fast, clean, and simple.
And because of that, you actually feel good after using them.
They serve a single purpose — and they serve it perfectly.
A few examples that come to mind immediately:
- Techmeme – the best way to catch up on tech news in minutes.
- Hacker News – a simple feed of what smart people are reading and discussing.
- Bear Blog – writing and publishing without distractions.
- Freedom App – a tool that just blocks distractions so you can actually focus.
- Stock Analysis – a clean, fast, ad-light research site that makes finding stock data effortless.
Another thing you’ll notice about these types of sites:
They’re usually independent.
They're not part of some giant corporation trying to squeeze every last dollar out of you.
Instead, they do just enough to make a good living:
- Maybe a few tasteful ads.
- Maybe a premium version for the real diehards.
- But never at the cost of the experience.
They aren’t optimizing for "maximum extraction" — they're optimizing for long-term trust.
And it shows.
You don't leave feeling like you’ve been milked dry.
You leave thinking, "That was great. I’ll be back."

I bet they have a lot in common with these.
Fast.
